More than just art on Walls – Oregon Murals tell Stories of Life Now and Then

Ever since the first cave paintings of handprints and hunts, the art on our walls has been a window into our lives, our communities and ourselves. Throughout history, murals have served as a means of storytelling, cultural expression, and community engagement, leaving a lasting imprint on the landscapes of civilizations past and present. Today murals continue to be an important art form, with artists around the world using them to beautify urban spaces and celebrate cultural heritage.

The videos of Travel Oregon’s Oregon, Only Slightly Exaggerated reveal whimsical scenes of enchanting forests, vineyards, rivers, mountains and more, and share with you that magical feeling of being in Oregon.

This captivating artwork is coming to the real world, proudly hand-painted on walls in Oregon where the illustrations represent the destinations. Let the Oregon Mural Trail inspire you to get outside and experience the wonders of each community. Take photos of the murals and use the hashtag #OregonIsMagic in social posts to share the love. And while you’re there, visit the landmarks and businesses that make these towns just so magical.

The Northwest MuralFest was a five-day mural painting event held in The Dalles, OR. in 2022. During the festival, 15 new historical murals were added to the already 16 existing in the downtown area.

The Dalles Mural Society was organized in March 1993 with the mission of pictorially preserving the epic historical events that have occurred in this area. And The Dalles, Oregon has a rich cultural history. You will find murals honoring the original Native Americans who have lived in this area for over 10,000 years, the Lewis and Clark Expedition which passed through The Dalles during their historic journey from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean, and murals honoring the pioneers who forged a new life here at the end of The Oregon Trail.

We invite you to seek out the Oregon is Magic murals on the Oregon Mural Trail and while you’re there visit the landmarks and businesses that make these towns just so magical.
