Tamanawas Falls: Bring your binoculars and prepare to see a lot of birds and a stunning waterfall! The falls are amazing at 100 feet high and 40 feet wide. The trailhead footbridge is the midpoint of a 8-mile stretch of the East Fork of the Hood River hosting nesting Harlequin Ducks. Belted Kingfisher are common but it’s the songbirds you’re likely to remember long after they’ve sung their tunes.
Tamanawas Falls Trail #650 A is found on the east slope of Mt. Hood and follows the Cold Spring Creek. It’s an ideal destination to cool off on a hot summer afternoon. The trail follows Cold Spring Creek and is shaded by large Douglas fir, cedar and a variety of trees and shrubs. We especially love this hike in the fall when the vine maples are turning.
This is a very popular hike so we suggest, to our guests, to get started early. A valid Recreation Pass is required at East Fork- Tamanawas Fall trailhead. The Hike, starting at the normal trailhead, is an easy 4 mile out/back along Cold Spring Creek. A path less traveled would be the Tamanawas Loop trail starting at the Polallie trailhead. Both less than 9 miles from the Old Parkdale Inn Bed and Breakfast
Our Chasing Waterfalls and Oregon Waterfall Wednesdays series continues. According to Northwest Waterfall Survey there are well over 1000 waterfalls in Oregon! We’ve set out to witness the beauty of as many as we can. We’ll share our finds with you, our guests, so you too can set out to Chase Waterfalls.
