Springbrook Hazelnut Farm
This beautiful farm is a wonderful wine country discovery. Perfectly located 20 miles from Portland, with easy access to al the area attractions and the airport, it retains the character of the private estate it has always been. The four matchng Craftsman buildings are all on the National Register of Historic Places. The Rose Cottage and the Carriage House are private hideaways popular with honeymooners and other romantics. They are maintained in their original stye with Turkish rugs and antique furnishings and china in the complete kitchens. They come stocked daily for breakfast and the Cottage contains laundry facilities for visitors spending more time in the area. They have views of the pond, rimmed with iris in the springtime, and the daffodil meadow.
The main house is surrounded by extensive gardens, including a perennial maze, a vegetable garden, a miniature orchard, 60 acres of hazelnut orchards (walk to the winery next door) a private swimming pool and a really good tennis court. It has huge old maple trees shading it. Inside, a spectacular entry hall with a grand piano, more Turkish rugs, a contemporary art collection and antique furnishings are part of the ambiance. Although it does have accomodations for guests, tours are available to guests in the Cottage and Carriage House. All the facilities in the gardens are available to guests.
In the area the many wineries are popular destinations, as are the Oregon coast (an hour and 15 minutes) Mount Hood (2 hours), the Oregon garden (an hour) the Evergreen museum (20 minutes), the Columbia gorge (about an hour) the Heirloom rose garden (10 minutes). J.K. Carriere Winery is in our barn.
There are at least a half dozen very good restaurants we are happy to recommend as well.
